Some companies talk about being family-owned. At Interstate Pest Management, it's woven into everything we do — from the way we treat our customers to the way we show up for our team.
Our story starts in 1963, when Don Thorstenson founded Interstate Pest Management in The Dalles, OR. Four years later, his nephew Mel packed his bags, drove to Kelso, WA with $1,000 in his pocket, and started a new branch because he saw a need no one else was filling. His son Brad took over in 1993, expanded into Vancouver and Portland, and built what the Pacific Northwest knows today. In 2019, Brad's son Ryan stepped in as President — and as of 2026, four generations of the Thorstenson family are still at the helm.
That kind of continuity doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people want to stay.
We serve communities across the I-5 corridor — Portland, Vancouver, Kelso/Longview, Olympia, and a growing presence in Salem — with a team that genuinely cares about the work they do and the customers they serve. Our technicians aren't just pest control professionals. They're educators, problem-solvers, and neighbors. We invest in industry-specific training, continuing education, and certifications like QualityPro because we believe the best service comes from the most prepared people.
Our mission is simple: provide effective, preventative pest control while being friendly, easy to work with, and accessible. Our vision is bigger: create healthier communities and lasting peace of mind through exceptional service, integrity, and sustainable practices.
That vision starts internally. We operate by four core values — Service, Excellence, Growth, and Solutions — and we mean all of them. We believe every team member is capable of more, and we try to create the conditions where that growth actually happens. Managers have an open-door policy. We fail together, and we succeed together. Team member success is treated as company success, because it is.
We're proud to be recognized as a top employer in Washington — and we're just getting started.
The Best Solution Is Just Down The Road.
