Novitas Academy

Novitas Academy is an amazing place to work mostly because of the type of work we do. Every day we have the opportunity to help students and families. We help students with learning differences and or mild behavioral and emotional problems see the greatness within themselves. We help our students identify their interests and to find their passion. We help them develop the life skills to successfully launch. We take a collaborative and relational approach. Our staff get to participate in lots of great activities with our students. Each week we send out multiple outings. Our staff go skiing, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, etc. with our students. Last year they went on an adventure therapy trip sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands, this year they are going to Costa Rica. They will also be going on a multi-day canoe trip down the Green River, camping in Stanley, the Oregon Coast, and Yellowstone. Our campus is a beautiful and serene 30 acre river front campus.
We are as flexible with our staff as possible and we strive to teach and encourage our staff. Even our newest staff make a living wage and those with more expertise or more experience do even better. This year at our Holiday party we spent thousands on Patagonia jackets for every employee, we also gave away a week at a resort in Cabo and a week of vacation credits that can be used at many different resorts. The parents of our students donated thousands of dollars’ worth of gifts to our staff holiday party. We have also implemented an ongoing employee moral boosting program called F.I.S.H. It includes catching each other doing something good and writing little notes of appreciation. We give out gift cards each month and occasionally host parties and barbecues. The four pillars of F.I.S.H. are to play, be there for others, making someone else’s day, and choosing your own attitude.
Another great benefit we offer is the training and education we provide. This not only helps our staff become better at their job it also can help them become better parents and people. This training includes how to build better relationships, collaboratively problem solve, and enhancing communication etc.
